Phil Hopper’s walk with God and repentance can be dated back to 1989 when he encountered a near death experience and was miraculously saved. He believed it was God giving him a second chance at life which he took. Phil says that very day was the day he died and parted ways with sins. He repented and choose God since then. That very encounter birthed a new man.
Prior to his journey as a pastor and minister of God, Phil Hopper had a law enforcement career with KCPD. He was a SWAT team member and supervisor for 8 years. In 1997, Phil was awarded SWAT Officer of the Year alongside a Channel 9 Gold Award for Valor in the same year.
Pastor Phil’s journey as a pastor and preacher started in the year 1999 at the small church he and his family joined. The church at the time had no one to lead and pastor its congregation, one Sunday morning, the people of the church reached out to Phil and asked him to preach. Before that occasion, Pastor Phil had only preached twice. Phil believed it was going to be a onetime thing where he would preach that Sunday to the congregation and it would all be over. To his surprise, after four months had gone by, the people of the church reached out once again to Phil and asked him this time around to become the pastor of their church.
By the year 2000, Phil had abandoned his career as a law enforcement agent and had become a pastor of an upcoming small church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. What began as a small church with attendance of only a few dozen people has now grown into what is now being called a mega-church with attendance of people counting in thousands. Abundant Life Church is that Church.
