Erwin W. Lutzer is a Canadian-American evangelist, author, preacher, teacher and public speaker who was born on the 3rd of October 1941 in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada to Gustav Lutzer and Wanda Lutzer. His parents were married for 77 years and lived past their 100th birthday. Erwin lost his father in the year 2008, he was aged 106 and his mother died in 2012. She was aged 103 at the time of her death.

Erwin earned a Bachelor’ Degree in Biblical Education from Winnipeg Bible College. In 1967, he earned a Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary and while serving as a senior pastor at Edgewater Baptist Church, Chicago, he earned a Master’s of Art from Loyola University Chicago in Philosophy. Much later, Erwin Lutzer received an LL.D from the Simon Greenleaf School of Law and a DD from the Western Conservative Baptist Seminary.

The 82 years old preacher became born again at the age of 14. Erwin Lutzer became the senior pastor of Moody Church in 1980, and was senior pastor for 36 years. Under his 36 years of leadership, the church grew from strength to strength.
Lutzer speaks on three radio US broadcasts that are streamed worldwide, namely; “The Moody Church Hour” – The Moody Church’s Sunday morning worship service, “Songs in the Night” – An evening program airing since 1943 and “Running to Win” – A daily bible teaching broadcast. He speaks at bible seminars and conferences in several countries as well.
Erwin Lutzer transitioned to the role of Pastor Emeritus on May 22, 2016 after taking his last sermon as senior pastor. Two years after retiring from the position of senior pastor, Erwin’s television production production, “A Call For Freedom” on the 10th of November 2018 won three regional Emmy Awards.
