Karen was born on the 15th of November 1960 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S. to Reverend Elbert Clark and Dr. Mattie Moss Clark.

Karen has released 20 albums with the Clark Sisters and Five solo albums. The Clark sisters have been active in the gospel music industry since 1966. The group compromises of Karen and her biological sisters; Dorinda, Twinkie and Jacky, with Karen being the youngest of them all. Before the formation of the “Clark Sisters”, Karen had been singing with her sisters since she was 5.
Karen’s debut album, “Finally Karen” was recorded in 1998 when the Clark Sisters went on a break. The album earned Karen a Grammy Award nomination for “Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album” and won Karen The Lady of Soul Award for “Best Gospel Album” in the same year. Her second album, “2nd Chance” was recorded in 2002 following a near death experience Karen encountered the previous year. She had been hospitalized after a surgery and the doctors at the time told Karen that she had only a 2% chance of survival. “The Heavens Are Telling”, Karen’s third album was recorded in 2003 while “It’s Not over”, her fourth album was recorded in 2006. “All In One” her fifth album was recorded in 2010 and “Destined to Win” her sixth was recorded in 2015.
Karen and the Clark Sisters have been nominated for numerous awards and have won several awards individually and collectively over the years.

Karen is married to John Drew Sheard Sr. a minister of the gospel and Bishop of the “Church of God in Christ” in Detroit. The two tied the knots in 1984 and have stayed married since then. Karen serves as the first lady of the “Church of God in Christ” alongside her husband. Karen is mother to Kierra Sheard, the actress and gospel singer and John Drew Sheard II. Karen had a stillbirth the next time she got pregnant.
